I remember learning to make the knit stitch and oh my is all I have to say. I didn’t think I’d ever get it. That’s why I took special precautions to make sure you wouldn’t have any trouble. Below I’ve got a video tutorial that includes a slow motion clip so it doesn’t breeze past you. Plus a photo tutorial completely broken down therefore than most knit photo tutorials are.
Oh and you’re probably confused as to why you keep seeing people call the knit stitch the garter stitch… Yeah, that. Well let me explain. The knit stitch is only called a knit stitch when you have one row. Once you have 2 rows of knit on top of each other, it’s called the garter stitch. Don’t ask me why they decided to do that in knit, but they did.
Anyways, the knit stitch is one of the most basic stitches out there. It’s like the single crochet of knit. So definitely a stitch to learn.
Knit Stitch Video Tutorial
In case you are better at learning with photos, I’ve put together a photo tutorial too!
Take your right needle under the left needle, while inserting the right needle through the first loop.
You should be making an X with your needles with the right needle under the left now.
Take the yarn over the right needle.
Pull the right needle back through while catching the yarn you just took over the right needle.
After you have started pulling the yarn back through with the right needle, continue the process of pulling it through.
Slide the first loop you just used on the left needle off.
Congrats! You just finished making the knit stitch!!! 🙂

And before I completely forget, I know sometimes you need some extra help with something. Well since I'm really busy, it can take me a day or 2 before I can get back to you. The thing is, I feel REALLY bad about that. So I created the Ultimate Knit and Crochet Facebook group. It's got some really awesome women that love to share their projects, help out and get inspired from your cool adventures. But if you'd rather wait, you can always DM me on Insta for a lil extra help. :) All good?
