What makes a quirky girl with sporadic bursts of energy, getting overly excited over the adventures in life? Let’s rewind a bit.
I spent years of my childhood stuck in the mud. You see, I had lost all sense of adventure. My epiphany came when I was about 12 years old. For some reason, I thought an adventure should be some huge thing. Boy, was I wrong! Once I realized adventure is all around and mine for the taking, there was no stopping me.
Adventure doesn’t have to be snowboarding down Mount Everest, jumping from a plane or even air ballooning in France. We have adventures through our entire lives, whether it’s learning to crochet, knit, sing, play guitar or piano. You could even bike your hometown or create your garden. It just depends on how you look at it. Having a positive, open mindset is a great place to start!
You create your adventure no matter what it is!
What a riot growing up as a 90s kid from Michigan, but I was always hiding behind my parents legs around new people and environments.
I was born to be an enthusiastic organizer! In fact, when I was 2 years old, I was tired of playing at home and decided to take a day adventure! It just needed a little planning on my part. I packed up my own diaper bag with all the necessities plus some, and headed over to the neighbor’s house where my father was visiting. After a while of visiting the neighbors, my father said I needed to go home to get my diaper changed. In my charming way I said, “But I have one right here!” And pulled one out of my diaper bag. This was the beginning of my lifelong love of planning and organizing!
Later in Life, My First Business
Have you ever been a round peg trying to fit in a square box? I was beginning to see that it was not just okay, but also normal. It took me awhile to love being a round peg, but that’s what makes me quirky and the will to succeed with my own unique strengths. Growing up, I had a hard time learning to read and had several people give up on me. But I was determined to prove them wrong and that’s exactly what I did. It all started when I helped my mom run a craft business. While working in the craft business, I realized I had natural business skills, and it was the beginning of a new adventure! I became enthusiastic about my new found skills, and became an entrepreneur starting my first business, selling crochet products while learning online business strategies. This eventually led to my own website.
Cream Of The Crop Crochet
I founded Cream Of The Crop Crochet when I turned 18 years old, offering crochet patterns, crochet tutorials, and crochet resources. It was so much fun, and I learned so much about pattern designing, videography, photography, website design, branding, online customer service, partnering with companies, blogging, and the legal side of business and copyright. During my time working on C Of The CC, I felt a need to broaden my horizons. My hard work paid off when I sold Cream Of The Crop Crochet in early 2018. Now it’s time for my next adventure with AshleyDylan.com!
Since starting Ashley Dylan, I’ve gotten a clearer idea of what I want to do. From the very first day, I knew I wanted to document in some way. I wasn’t sure how I was gonna go about it, and it keeps evolving everyday, but I’ve got a pretty good idea now. Whether you see it or not, this entire site is documenting. From what I make, to skills I learn, to trips I take. I also like documenting it in many forms – writing, videos, photos. The part that I LOVE the most, is that you can create this adventure with me!
There was one thing that really stood out to me on Cream Of The Crop Crochet. Like many sites, I didn’t like the ads, and I KNOW you didn’t like them either. That’s why I said goodbye to those ads. Of course, a site does need a form of income to support itself. So the Ashley Dylan shop was born. I figure it is more fair then anything else. YOU decide if Ashley Dylan sticks around or not! 🙂 I can’t wait to find out with you!!! 😀
