We may have gotten lost…
Why would we even go there? Well, have you ever heard that Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes is called the most beautiful places in the United States? I had no clue. I’d been there before, but mostly I just remember climbing the dunes and then it being super hot and someone getting sick (I promise it wasn’t me). Since then, I’ve always been like we didn’t really get to explore so why don’t we go back? So I convinced my mother to go back over 10 years after the little accident.
So we went to the office, got our pass and maps. Come to find out, the place was way bigger than we thought it was. So you know we had to just take the day exploring instead of just staying in one place all day. Since it is a national park, you can probably guess how big it is. Although we have been to many state parks, this one way so big that you have to drive from spot to spot.
my mother always loves going to all of the what I call boring places. If you love your ferry and train rides you would love going places with her. Sorry, that not really what I call loads of fun. Maybe cause that’s what we always seemed to end up at when I was little. But we found what they call the scenic drive.
Basically you drive around in a loop on about 12 different stops to see everything. We skipped through a lot of it, because it was just trees where they put a sign… But there is one really popular stop where you will be lucky to find a parking place. And before you think, ‘nah, I’ll pass’, don’t. We ended up having to because we had so many cars behind us, but we went back later and it was totally worth it. I believe that might be the view they are talking about, when they voted it as the most beautiful places in America in 2011.
That day we had a bit of a little adventure within our adventure, because they don’t have phone service everywhere.
At least we didn’t. Plus, the maps we had only had so much of that area. Somehow we ended up a bit further north than we intended. Okay, lets be honest. A lot further north than we intended. Like, maybe a half hour away from the state park… Yeah. Well, we did find phone service! Haha. Anyways, we were a bit surprised when we ended up in Leland. We were laughing and joking about that for quite a bit. But our little detour turned out being a good thing, because that is the only way to get on the ferries to access the islands. We didn’t get a chance to go to the island, but hopefully on a future trip there.
We all gotta eat…
Of course it was getting around dinner time, and we weren’t really wanting to extend the adventure into food. So, we had to head on over the Traverse City, since that is the closest place with chain restaurants. Who knew that didn’t have any within 30 minutes?
We did get back to all the park and decided it would be a good idea to check out all of the beach access locations. A lot of them weren’t really good actually. You would have to want to be in the water all the time, and not on the beach. But we did find a couple of good places so it was all good.
Ironically, getting lost was probably the best part of the day. Well, it was actually all really good. But my mother and I kind of have fun when we get lost, unlike when most everyone else would be completely freaking out. Hahaha. Well anyways, I hope you got inspired to get up and create your adventure! 🙂

And before I completely forget, I know sometimes you need some extra help with something. Well since I'm really busy, it can take me a day or 2 before I can get back to you. The thing is, I feel REALLY bad about that. So I created the Ultimate Knit and Crochet Facebook group. It's got some really awesome women that love to share their projects, help out and get inspired from your cool adventures. But if you'd rather wait, you can always DM me on Insta for a lil extra help. :) All good?
I'm probably leaving something out. I'm only human afterall. Contribute to this information in the comments below!
